Frequently Asked Questions

  • What is a Doctor of Podiatric Medicine / Chiropodist?

Corey is a Doctor of Podiatric Medicine. In the US, this is called a "podiatrist". American podiatrists are physicians who have attended an accreditted podiatric medical school and have the title "doctor"; they do complex foot and ankle surgery in hospitals, and prescribe medication. Podiatrists may practice in Alberta and British Columbia, however in Ontario, podiatrists who registered in the province after 1993 must practice as "chiropodists".

Chiropodists are qualified foot health specialists with a smaller scope of practice than podiatrists, limited to minor foot surgery outside hospitals, and select prescriptions. Until the law changes in Ontario, Corey is unable to practice the full scope of podiatry, however he brings a podiatrist's knowledge and skill to his chiropody practice at Hamilton Foot Care.
